Best Midlane Champions for SoloQ: Dominate the Rift with These Picks

Midlane is famous for its legendary players, plays, and champions, and we’re here to cover the latter to help you win games in soloQ.

Ahri has always been relevant, but her recent mini-rework has pushed her close to being overpowered. Despite facing subsequent nerfs, she remains the undisputed top pick in midlane for good reason. Ahri is a jack of all trades—bringing sustain, mobility, waveclear, damage, and of course, her charm. While she can struggle in the early game, her amazingly strong mobility ultimate for roaming more than makes up for it. This mobility, combined with her ability to quickly pick off targets alongside her team, is unmatched. Additionally, she offers tremendous versatility in item building, allowing you to adjust your mythic based on the game’s needs. Though she can be countered by champions like Fizz or Yasuo, her overall flexibility makes her an excellent choice for soloQ midlane mains. She’s quick, deadly, and undeniably charming while on the job.

on the other hand, is as evil as his appearance suggests. Despite his small and vulnerable look, his extreme damage output can single-handedly win fights or duels, and his threat only grows as the game progresses. In the early game, he is easy to catch, so it’s best to stay back and methodically stack his passive by killing minions with his Q, Baleful Strike. Once you have your cage, Veigar becomes considerably harder to gank, allowing you to farm up even more. As soon as your waveclear becomes unstoppable, grab your Predator boots and roam to a sidelane—the failsafe combo of pressing R will surprise anyone who stands in your way. In the later stages, use your cage to zone enemies, but avoid early game aggressors at all costs. And if you’re having trouble, banning Kassadin might be a good idea, we won’t blame you for it.

Kassadin works in the same league as Malphite up top, serving as an incredible counterpick that every midlaner should consider in their champion pool. Pick him into champions with weak early games, particularly AP mages, and watch them crumble under your level 16 power spike. In the early game, focus on staying alive and farming efficiently—you will undoubtedly be targeted by junglers, so remember to ward and maintain a patient mindset. While simple roams can help, prioritizing experience and CS over everything else is key. With Kassadin in the game, the match is never truly over; soloQ tends to bring chaotic moments where anything can happen, and that’s where Kassadin thrives and takes control. Just keep your composure and, for everyone’s sake, don’t blind pick him—you won’t enjoy laning against the swarm of AD assassins and bruisers.

Oh Talon—who doesn’t love Talon? As our curveball of the day, we recommend him as your go-to chaotic assassin for soloQ. Talon’s incredible level 2 power spike makes him one of the best in the game, and he is widely regarded as the king of First Blood. Once you can reliably waveclear, you become a menace simply by stepping out of enemy vision. Talon benefits immensely from the disorganized and chaotic nature of soloQ, making roams to sidelanes feel like a walk in the park while the enemy remains oblivious until it’s too late. So bring your blades and be ready to pour salt on your tilted enemies’ wounds.

LeBlanc is the queen of deception in the midlane. Winning lane is her forte thanks to her big burst damage and a handful of matchups that rarely pose a threat. Even when the lane isn’t in your favor, you can always slip away to a sidelane for quick, decisive kills. Early on, waveclear might be a challenge, so it’s important to auto-attack the wave to maintain an advantage and chip away at your opponent’s health bar. Once you secure a kill and create a substantial lead, you’re free to roam as long as you like. In the midgame, keep moving within the fog of war—your potent mobility allows you to approach enemies from unexpected angles, ensuring you always stay one step ahead. It may take some time to master LeBlanc, but when you do, you might just become your region’s next Faker.

That’s it for midlane. If you ever feel like you’re not climbing the ladder, consider adding one of these champions to your champion pool. Stay cool, be friendly to your jungler, and don’t forget to bring body bags for your botlane roams. Good luck, summoner.
